In order to change your internal state for the better, the improvement of your soul must take place. This will only happen when you put the Most High first.
You may think that you know what to do to change your internal state, but the improvement of your soul can only come from the Most High, often times in the form hard ship. And you can only get what you need from that hardship when you turn to God and accept that He bestowed it upon you for the betterment of your soul.
What if God stripped you of everything you truly cherished? Then what? That is when your soul grows because He takes away what you thought you needed and gives you exactly what you need for internal growth. “For gold is tried in the fire, and acceptable men in the furnace of adversity,” (Ecclesiasticus 2:5). He will bring pain into your life and put you on the path that you are meant to be on, not the path that you think you should be on in order to shape you into the person that He intended you to be. As a result, your soul will be full.
Many people endure hardships and overcome them, but the ones who truly receive the fruit of that hardship do so because God grants them the wisdom needed to unpack it because, “All wisdom cometh from the Lord,” (Ecclesiasticus 1:1). Everything happens for you, not to you, but you won’t see it that way unless you turn to the Most High and put Him first: “Believe in Him and He will help thee,” (Ecclesiasticus 2:6).
Turn to Him so when He takes you out of the furnace of adversity, you will truly be a better person, the person He intend you to be, not the person you think you should be.
